How to Answer “Tell me about yourself” Fresher Job interview question

When you walk into the interview room , shake hands with your interviewer and sit down with your best interviewing smile on, Guess what their first question is?


“Tell me about yourself.”

over 90% Interviewer’s ask this question. Even though

it’s such a common interview question, it’s strange that many candidates don’t spend the time to prepare for exactly how to answer it and often stutter, stumble and freeze in the moment and articulate just a couple of irrelevant points.

So read on to know our TIPS on how to come prepared for this open-ended classic!
The best to approach this question is – “your own 30 sec commercial” or can prepare and practice separate answers for different individuals you might interview with.


If you are a fresher , your answer to Tell me about yourself should start in the following way:

  1.     First thank the interviewer for giving a chance to introduce yourself.
  2.     Tell your full name, and about your family in short..
  3.     Tell about your 10th & 12th Boards Examination with percentage.
  4.     Tell about your College and the Percentage / CGPA you got.
  5.     Tell about Projects done during College and any Extra Curricular Activities and          Achievements.
  6.     Any Extra courses/training and certifications that you acquired.
  7.     About your Hobbies and interests.

If you are a Entry -Level Candidate, your answer to Tell me about yourself should start in the following way:

  1.     First thank the interviewer for giving a chance to introduce yourself.
  2.     Tell your full name, and about your family in short..
  3.     Tell about your Education in short starting with your highest Qualification
  4.     Tell about Present Working Company and Role in the Company
  5.     Activities and Achievements.
  6.     Any Extra courses/training and certifications that you acquired.
  7.     About your Hobbies and interests.

Don’t Blabber
Less is more! Apply this same rule to this age-old question. If you just sit there blabbering and telling the interviewer the story of your life you’re eventually going to bore him to death. Smile, keep an optimistic and eager tone during your abridged, micro-biography and let the rest of the interview begin.

Remember, your answer should be targeted to the job, not a personal biography—because employers don’t really care where you grew up. What matters to them is how you’ll be a value addition to their company!
